Post Colour blotches on Mitsubishi 9800DW prints
Hi guys n gals,

Started to notice my Miti is printing odd colour blotches and random colour lines (look like creases) on some prints. Its occuring on about every 5th print - which from a cost perspective is highly annoying!

I've checked the ribbon - cant see any folds or creases and the dust filter is clean. They always seem to be in the upper right side of the print (mainly landscape) and mainly pink and green - with the occasional blue thrown in. Theyre too noticeable so make prints unusable.

Anyone know how I can stop these?

media is the standard mitis 9x6 size (9069).

Adrian

Have you tried cleaning the print head using something like a micro-fibre cloth? That might help.

considered that but not too sure where the print head is!

Is it the part directly above the ribbon?

Hi Adrian,

Can you post an example?

Yes the head is the part that hangs down above the ribbon.

Do turn it off and disconnect from mains, then leave it for 5 mins since last print to allow the head to fully cool down.

Just a thought, you hadn't just brought it in from the cold had you?

Cheers

Morning Adrian,
Although you say your problem is not on all photos, are you using inside or outside ? hopefullt this trick may help
I had a problem when i had run some 5x7 thro my mitsi, left similar probelms to yours ,mine was a line, caused by a build up of ??????,so could be the same with your head
Anyway to the point
I tried to clean the print head,i used a small vanity mirror  to see the head, plastic mounted,no metal around the mirror, don't let anything touch ,used alcohol, lint free clothe,Could not shift it......
Thought i was in for a new head, until,Jeremy Nako, suggested id do the following
I had some 6x4 media, can be done with 9x6 as long as the media is 6 inch wide,so full head is in contact with media
Created a white image,in photoshop,so pure white picture
printed (white pic) in runs of 5 thro the printer, then ran a full colour picture thro to check it,slowly but surly the lines disappeared,
I just kept on running 5 whites until print head was cleaned
How it cleans the print head im not sure,im guessing the heat from the head, warms up the residue on the head sufficiently enough for it to be grabbed hold of by the print
took me about 40 6x4s,grand total of less than a fiver
Hope Mr Nako's tip works for you

Hi Andy
You know (the garage door) only improved my looks,
Those carriage ladies loved the rugged "Black Eye " look ;-)
