Guys, bit of a quandary - need to replace 1 camera body, must take SD card for eye-fi (currently have 7D with SD/CF adapter which works but newer cards won't go with adapter) Intend 7D to remain main body for outdoors (maybe)
Spoke to Graham Taylor who recommended used 1D mk2 (N) instead of new 60D. Not doubting Grahams advice, just wondered what others may think.....

Hey Dave,

How's sunny Rainhill these days, probably very different to when I worked there back in the 70's? Are all the shirt factories still there, like Rael Brook, Peter England etc or are they long demolished?

Not used a 60D so can't comment, I have 40D, 1D Mk1, 2 and 3 and as you would expect the Mk3 blows them all away but, if doing an 8-10 hour day I'd rather carry the 40D even with the battery pack!

The low light performance of the 40D is good, but the Mk3 is just great!

I love my 1dmk2n, but it does chew through the batteries with eyefi on or even tethered. Though to be fair I could do with getting a couple of new batteries.

If I was choosing now though, I'd probably go for the 60d and the knowledge I'm using a new camera.

No shirt factories here!
Would imagine that - like most places - it's all changed over the years.
(Bit like my face!!!!)

Jon - looking at using replacement for indoor stuff with eye-fi, will keep using the 7D for horses etc.

The reason for the recomendation is Dave is using eyefi cards for his indoor stuff and the 1dmk2 has dual slots. This will enable him to save hirez to CF card while transmitting using the eyefi in the sd slot.

Also S/H prices around £500-600 for low usage. Also there will be a difference in focus speed and bodies are weatherproof (which I forgot to mention). I did also mention mk3 too!

I had a look at D60 in a store the other day. It's very much aimed at the consumer market. Plastic body not alloy. Silly flip out screen etc. I'm sure its a perfectly decent camera (and I'm Canon through and through) but it feel a bit "mickey mouse". I just wonder if it would stand up to much abuse. Just an opinion based only on first impressions.

You won't get my 2n for £500-600, still love the camera and it's still earning money. I'm doing more inside events and borrowed a 1D mk4 to compare. Shot 2n/4 side by side at a martial arts events at a school hall with c#@p lighting and brown walls and whilst the mk4 was better giving me an extra couple of stops it didn't give £3.5k better prints. Waiting for the 1Dmk5.

Also have 40d. I'd go for the 1D as long as it's the n or a mk3 for the reasons Graham says but you can't have mine. :D

Update - went shopping at focus monday with Graham. Ended up with a used mk2n from jacobs for £599 with charger and 12 month warranty. Hope I made the right decision........ :cam:
