hi
bit of a mouthfull!
i've posted before about my Nikon 70-300 and took Mikes advice and upped my ISO to 5000 and shot at 1/500th yesterday.
I fired off a dozen shots using it, and promptly swapped back to the 24-70 and cropping method - far from ideal but i know it's sharp.
Have had a look at this chap as i simply cannot afford the Nikon 70-200 at present and this seems to be a contender with positive reviews, anyone any experience of it?
thanks

I run two of the Sigma lenses 70-200 F2.8 although an older version. I have to say the sharpness has been really good, especially as I shoot individual action sports quite a lot.

I have a Sigma 2x converster which ups this lens to 100-400 F4 and at all but thunderstorm conditions even this is "fast" enough. Cameras are Nikon D300 and D700

I also use the older Sigma 70-200 AP EX HSM (non DG) version of this lens and can confirm that for the money, it is a cracking bit of glass. But better than an original NIKON, now that's a turn up for the books. But before you go spending your money, it could be advisable to wait for the arrival of Sigmas' new 70-200 F2.8 AP EX HSM DG fitted with Sigma's version of Image Stabilization. Apart from the absence of weather sealing, this lens promises to at last bring the opportunities of IS/VR technology to the working joe, like me. Hopefully in the very near future, I'll be able to do a full review of this lens, so watch this space.

One other thing. I think that Sigma's 1.4 extension is a better option for the 70-200 if speed is critical to your workflow. I use it ALL the time and it's a perfect combo for anyone wanting to shoot 300mm at F4.

Andy,

I have one of the older non-HSM ones if you want to try.

I'm looking at bringing the OS version along when we go karting. It would be great if we could do a compare and contrast alongside Nikon /Canon variants of this lens at this event.

thanks Mike for the offer, geography makes it a little tricky, but very generous all the same.
thanks Ed for the feedback too
I need to sell the 70-300 to raise some of the funds first anyway
