Ian
Fortunately she is OK and very understanding;- in the cold light of day she is a very nice lady. On reflection perhaps I should have used the term "humiliation" instead of abuse.
I went to see her last night with the refund and it appears that a few sessions had been printed.
At least I'm now aware of a possible glitch and in future will carry the backups on the van.

 Re: DS 40 Error Problem
Brin,
the only problem with 2 makes of printer is that you cant use the same media - where you think you solve one problem you can also cause another.

Mike I find the security of knowing that if ever there's a problem with sourcing one type of media, I still have the other machine. (Not that I can see that issue ever arising again). Having two types of media doesn't really cause an issue. I split the boxes so theres one roll of each in each box. x

 Re: DS 40 Error Problem
I can also see another problem with using two different make of printers (in tandem) at the same event. And the issue is the matter of maintaining consistency of output (prints) between the two printers. This can be overcome to some extent by good colour profiling but NOT totally eliminated from the output equation. It is for this very reason I'd like to exchange my current backup printer, a Copal-Fuji DBP1500 for a Citizen CW-01 as the natural (out of the box) colour profile for the CW-01 is so much closer to the DNP 40/80 than that of the DBP 1500.
Mind you, never putting ALL of your eggs into one basket, is always a good idea.

 Re: DS 40 Error Problem
Hi Brin and all
My DS40 indicated error after changing media at an event yesterday afternoon. I remembered your post and tested the scrapbox microchip which seems to be functioning. I also checked for any rouge off-cuts but could not find any.
I have reported this to Photomart this morning, as it is under warranty. After completing a remote diagnosis, they have advised that I will need to return the printer to them, at my cost, because the two year warranty is on a return to base basis.
My big concern is that I have a booking for this Friday and Saturday and no Printer!
Photomart say they will not get my printer back for Friday, as they do not supply loan machines anymore. Their only suggestion from customer services is that I hire one!
Any idea's? Is there anyone who can help me.

 Re: DS 40 Error Problem
I'm sure most will know that I am sponsored by Mitsubishi.
We have reequipped with the new double decker D707 printers over the last months. These are two printer mechanisms in one unit. Aside from the speed increase, this give us a lot more security in terms of things going wrong.
The only two components that are shared are the USB connection and the power supply. Given that most printers, when they go wrong ( regardless of make) usually suffer mechanical problems or head issues, this gives us a great peace of mind, with the advantage of the same media.
Yes the power supply could fail, but that's pretty unlikely and it's a percentages game.

 Re: DS 40 Error Problem
Hmm
Apart from Sympathy with your plight Bill, I can spare a printer for you at for the weekend.
I had to pay return carriage as well, but at the time I had little choice as I too needed a printer back for the weekend.
Give me a call if you need to borrow one of mine.
If I can negotiate a dog sitter (Chris has abandoned me for 2 weeks on a Med cruise with her mum) I shall be in Coventry next Tuesday, if you are going it would save the return carriage.

In the last seven years we have only replaced one power supply so that bears out your figures Jeremy. Stu www.systeminsight.co.uk
