I have to agree with Trudy.
I was very anti FB, never really saw the point. Then it was so clearly pointed out to me that I should look at it as a business networking op. It works for me, paying clients back this up and it obviously works for Trudy and many others. And, the great thing about it is its totally free.
I think everyone should realise that its here to stay for the foreseeable future, so use it while its there. Its also fast becoming the number 1 search facility, create a FB 'fan' page with the word 'photography' in your business name and just watch what happens!
We get new fans every week, slowly but surely the numbers are growing.
But, like everything out there, if you don't believe in it and think it won't work, then it won't work for you.
Just my humble opinion.... for what its worth.
Norman.

Quote: Not sniping at you sweetie, just not a fan of how people use Facebook ! I never thought you were Alan darling!!! I know where you are coming from, but I just ignore the 'eating a Twix then loading the dishwasher' type comments. I have a personal profile & a business profile, they are kept very separate, (although my blog updates in both!) The result of the business profile has been a pyramid effect of bookings. Admittedly mainly studio work, a few equestrian bookings, a couple of teenage shoots & also vouchers etc. I do really value the power of facebook!

Al.
Only had the business page a few weeks so its still early days but I would say only 3 or 4 so far, I have also started pushing a few ideas and creating my own ideas for jobs and these have brought some returns.
I am going to create an event page soon so I'll keep you posted, that's another good way of pushing a promo.
There's a few ideas in the pipeline, if they work, great, if not then its no big deal as I look at it as free apart from my time.
There's a very useful feature in Business pages called insights. You can see where the mix of feedback comes from. You can then start to target people in certain postcodes, male/female, age bands, etc. Where else can you get all this for free?
I keep the personal and business page content separate so the two don't get confused. Then of course, you don't need to worry about preaching to your mates!
Norman.

Norm been chewing on this for some time, goes back to PR's pm seminar at Warwick. Been too busy to get the proverbial out my a%% but have a few weeks to do so unless I get avalanched by offers to my free assistant post in the Brum area over the next month.
My January marketing push is now steadily resulting in bookings which will translate to ££££'S on the bottom line. Am I happy? hell yeah.
Can FB add more ££££'s... dunno but I'm happy to try it

I was at the Technology in marketing show at Earls Court a few weeks ago and although I can never get my head around people that opt out of life to have a virtual one I do fully agree with what is being said as using social networking for marketing. At the show there was a massive emphases on this stuff and not just facebook. Twitter etc was also heavily featured. I listened to several mini-seminars by companies that spend more on marketing research than we all collectively earn I would guess and some of the results were astonishing. The first thing was the amount of data the big guns can actually see. They could show how many people had ultimately read their viral messages and how many of those had got to their websites, buying habits, how many more people they had forwarded the message too and so it went on. Of course this is all very costly.
The one thing that seemed a common opinion though was that the main ROI with this stuff was most definitely on sites with low value goods and click and buy facilities. The return on information based sites was firstly more difficult to quantify (obviously) but also commonly agreed to be a pretty low percentage.
The other area which seems to be exploding is smart phone technologies and I am currently working with a developer on two iphone apps which are designed to nurture customer loyalty.
I wont ramble on anymore - if anyone is interested in any of this stuff and wishes to pick my brains drop me a pm.

Alan Warner wrote: As a backup to the FORUM though its a good idea, but Ive noticed in my One visit a maybe a breakaway message group inadvertently forming ? Alan Hi all. I was talking to Col about facebook and he's in agreement with Alan about how easily this can happen. One of the clubs he's in has a yahoo group page attached to the website and it was used much as this forum is. One of the members started a Facebook page up in the name of the club and the original forum's post's suddenly dropped off or different topics were discussed on different forums and all of a sudden not every member was as informed. I think it's a great idea for a personal/business but I'm not sure it should be attached to this forum. After all, we could all join the facebook page and then this forum would be worthless.
Just my thoughts.
