    DarkRoom 9.2 Review

It is now well over 3 years since DarkRoom software released the 9.1 upgrade so even longer since they took over the software. We were told that it had taken a while for them to get 9.1 out due to bug fixes etc. so what has changed with 9.2 ?

The only significant change is the chroma key (green Screen) algorithm and a minor change in that they have added QR code production in along with the exisiting barcodes. Core also benefits from built in drivers so the differential between Pro and Core has narrowed further further asking how they can justify such a large price differential.

In my opinion if you have Core and wish to upgrade because you want to do Green Screen then at 55 direct this is worth the money however the question of whether you would want to do this for Pro is another matter as for the price you can buy FXhome Photokey - difficult decison.

Whilst trying out 9.2 to see what is new I also looked at some of the other built in functionality to see what was possible, however as you can see I found a lot of bugs

When I have contacted DarkRoom Software I have been consistently told to use other methods (which are subsequently also found to be defective) or told that it is not designed to do what I say which is strange as I am following what it says in the instructions. Of course this may be part of the issue as the manuals have not been updated since version 8.9.

To further make matters worse all my postings on the official support forum are moderated so I can not ask for support there either. It is patently obvious that in the 3 1/2 to 4 years that DarkRoom Software has existed that they have never properly tested their software and they do not listen when the faults are highlighted. I posted a previous video approx March 2013 demonstrating many of the accounting issues (it was not publicly available) and instead of being fixed in this release they are actually worse.

The things that DarkRoom does right it does do them well but their support system is atrocious.

I have 9.1 Pro and 9.1 Core as I sometimes use 2 sales stations. If I were only to update only the Core so that I benefitted from the better green screen, could I still use with the 9.1 pro?
