Another Generator Question.....

Hi all,

Have done a bit of searching on various forums and not really found a direct answere so appologies in advance if my question is a bit stupid!

I dont currently have a generator but think im going to need one.

Last yr i gave onsite printing a go at motocross events with three inkjets and a laptop - Although the prints were spot on they took forever and the print cost was far too high, but realised that onsite was deffinately more profitable than web sales. The only power i have in the van is a couple of 110a lesuire batteies (charged through a split charge system on the engine) running oa couple of 500w inverters which was fine for my previous set up, but i have now added a 2nd lap top plus a HiTi 510 (so much better!) and now power is becoming an issue and im getting low battery voltage warning from my inverters and im having to run the vans engine for half the day!.

In an ideal world id love a Honda sine wave generator and a UPS, but cash is tight. I have a 2.2kv generator at work that i can get for a resonable price but im aware that running computors and printers off it may be a tad risky. It does have a 12v output for charging batteries - Would this be enough to top up my lesuire batteries so i could keep my current set up or am i going to have to bite the bullet and buy a sine wave genny and a UPS?

It all got quite technical but I think you can add a UPS in line with your other genny.
I may be wrong and hopefully someone will put me right or confirm my view.

Thanks for that - Id be interested to hear if anyone is using a UPS with a none sine wave genny as that may be the answere if the battery charging option isnt viable.

Take a look at the Kipor generators, I have had mine for 5 years no probs whatsoever and I know there is someone else here who swears by his and they are nearly half the price of a Honda.

Another thumbs up for Kipor, great little machines, very reliable, cheap to run and above extremely quiet.

Guys, the Kipor are great machines, however they do come with a manufacturers warning that they should not be continuously run for more that 3.5 hrs.
Forgive me, I don't mean to party poop, I guess I'm saying we need to be mindful when recommending them that in Andy's line of business, he is likely to exceed that recommendation and whilst that's fine, this should be born in mind at this stage.

Well as I look at my handbook for the Kipor 3000 I cannot find those words and I have run mine 8 hours a day on week ends for the last 5 years so perhaps they have this for the smaller engines

I've got a 1KVA Kippor and have run it all day without a hitch. It only gets powered down to refuel, then it fires up first time. I have found it to be a very competent bit of kit.

Sell the 2.2kv generator

buy a tidy S/H EU20i (they hold their value very well indeed)

Forget the UPS (add it later if really want one, earn the money 1st)
