Having looked at the Apple site I would be interested to hear if anybody has compared the use of iPhoto with Picasa on the MAC. They seem to have similar functionality, a not dissimilar interface and both are free and as iPhoto comes from Apple I am sure it is very well optimised.

Hi Mike

We tried it a year or 2 ago. In our experience iPhoto is a lot slower and more cumbersome in many ways than Picasa. Slower to import, slower to render image and much slower to buffer to printer.

Other things include that with Picasa the edit tools are constantly on view. With iPhoto you have to select them. They remain in place if you tab between images, however if you double click back to thumbnails the edit tools disappear and you need to select them all over again.

It just seemed too much effort compared to the simplicity and set up of Picasa.

Totally agree Paul

Picassa is better for events that iphoto without a doubt.

Main Problem with iphoto was always the storage of images within the program rather like itunes...
