Not wanting to start a debate about fox hunting here, but I think it's great that there are still English traditions like this despite the oposing arguements and politics. I love our Englishness.

Nice pictures too!

Andrew,

they will not have been fox hunting, that is illegal now (nanny state) and what they will most likely have been doing is following a scent trail and I totally agree - foxhounds and hunstmen is a very British image, especially at this time of year.

I know it's illegal, that's what I mean really, that even though it's illegal to hunt the fox they still get on their finery and go out for the show of it all, carrying on traditions against the odds. Like morris dancing, I'd love to see more of it, mayday celebrations, St Georges day etc. Englishness - probably not a real word, but I love it :D

Bloodhounds are great, if you can get them going over a fence its ears everywhere!!

I wouldn't have been there shooting if they had been foxhunting, they were chasing the scent of a runner. I'm trying to do a bit of a Martin Parr by putting together shots of everything English
Here's a few more

Great pics Gary.

'Englishness'

BE CAREFUL ANDREW, our 'democratically elected government' would take a dim view. We are not allowed to be proud to be English, that is just not politically correct, you could get locked up for using words like that! Although I have to agree, it should be added to the 'English' Dictionary!

I think the pics are really great - wish the riders would all fall off though, must be the daftest English pastime next to croquet!

Why do you wish such misfortune on anyone though?
I'm not a football fan, but don't wish every player to get kicked in the shins every match!

Errrr would it spoil the 'Englishness' thing to tell you they also do it here in N.Ireland? :-o

Ahh but football fans don't chase helpless referees around the pitch until they are exhausted and then tear them limb from limb.

So I guess that makes Footie fans Human beings and not phsycos! There now you have got me started!!

As an addition, I have spent many nights with a rifle humanely despatching foxes WHERE THERE WAS A REAL PROBLEM.. Removing the Sport from distressing and killing animals.

11-02-2010, 04:32 PM
Ignorance is bliss. I could see that argument against hunting converting many a livestock farmer.
But dont football fans chase around opposing fans and then kick seven shades of you know what out of them?
This is a photography forum not a political soapbox so lets keep things on track.

But the hounds in the photo's are bloody hounds, not fox hounds. They only track a scent, not hunt foxes. Very different breed.

I agree with the post above by Rod, lets not turn this political!

So some people are against hunting and some are not, that has bugger all to do with photography. The comments about the sport are not neccessary, lets stick to the pictures before we all start argueing (again!).

My idea of Englishness is the FOX! Sly, wise and infinitely patient. It would be nice to see a few pictures of the (live) fox, the great British underdog, majestic against the background of a English countryside. Now that's what I call a Great British symbol.

I wish I had more time to go hunting... oh yeah.. and a horse would be useful too..

But I get to go to football and rugby tournaments..... Yawn.... we have a laugh really..

So if anyone wants a 2nd / 3rd / 4th shooter very cheap for a midlands equine event give me a shout coz I'd love a go.. lol

Would prefer XC Eventing as I used to fence judge..

Ah well back to reality !!! BUMP !!!!!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you. The local foxes in Tottenham carry brief cases and sub-machine guns, so it was really nice to see a fox in it's natural environment. Great photo BTW.
