The pointers below are based on our experiences and should in no way be taken as either the only way or the best way to approach a Black-tie event. 

Having covered location previously I thought I would look at practices for promoting yourself at the Ball. Obviously location is key, but there is no point being in the best location if guests aren't able to decipher what it is you actually do! What follows is a list of aides for Black-tie Balls

Pellier's Priceless Pointers - Black-tie Top Tips

 

Over the next few weeks I am hoping to give some pointers to help aspiring Black-tie Event Photographers to hopefully improve their workflow and their income flow. Many of the pointers will seem obvious to many and may be passed off as trying to teach granny to suck eggs, but if just one pointer helps you then it will make my effort worthwhile.

 

The pointers will be put to you as guidelines and should not be taken as being the only answer or way forward. They are in no particular order so pointer one this week does not mean it holds any more gravitas than next week's!!

Derek Boocock of Distinct Images has just sent in this useful article of an alternative way to shoot tethered with Nikon cameras. We are always interested in your articles here at The Event Photographer Society


I recently helped out a fellow professional at a black tie event in Manchester and was pretty impressed with his wireless setup. This meant he was able to wander about with his camera taking pictures and send them wirelessly to me manning his laptop for printing. No wires or cables and total freedom of movement. However when I looked into the cost of all the wireless equipment it was beyond my budget at this time. So I thought I would look at what other options were available out there and came up with a pretty neat solution, well within my meagre budget.
